The JUCO number seven rated Central Arizona College started the year off with four straight wins in Las Vegas this past weekend against four very good programs.
One of the wins included an opening night 3-hit shutout against the number four team in the country in Southern Nevada.
It's early and head coach Anthony Gilich has his pitchers on limited pitches. Nick Trogerlic-Iverson made the most of his pitches by throwing a hitless four and striking out seven. He then watched Jordan Suarez and Matt Dalke finish up with the final five innings as Central won 3-0. Alix Garcia tripled and drove in a run, and Ernny Ordonez and Reagan Teegarden drove home the final two runs.
In game two Central rapped 15 hits including an Ordonez 4-5 night with 4 rbi's for a15-8 win.
In game three, Jake Vander Wal and Ordonez homered to right in the top of the 11th for a 6-3 Central win.
"Great start for us, we were challenged with some very good teams right out of the gate. We are going to rely on a lot of freshmen this year and they did a great job" said the head coach.
"We did well in all phases this weekend."
-Some of the opening Friday night games were backed up "a little" so Central's first game didn't start until 10:00PM and finally ended at 1:05.
-Grady Miller will start the Friday home opener against Arizona Christian
-Ordonez and Vander Wal each drove in six runs apiece over the weekend.
-Koa Eastlack struck out 4 of six again in his return from last years's shoulder injury.
